Val Russell was born and educated in England. She emigrated to Canada in 1969 and resides in Scarborough, Ontario.
Val has completed courses at O.C.A.D; Haliburton School of Art; Bridgewater Retreat & Elora Arts Centre. She has also taken various workshops throughout Canada. Her subject matter is land/seascapes and wildlife working in either watercolour or oils.
Val’s work has been juried and accepted for many shows at locations throughout Southern Ontario including the CSPWC (Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour) juried show “Open Water” in 2004; Toronto Art Expo, 2006 – 2009 (inclusive); the Hummingbird Centre for the Performing Arts Volunteer Exhibition, 2006; the Varley Gallery juried Exhibition “Artists’ Odysseys – The Arctic” 2006;Michael Gallery, 2006 and 2007; and the Arts & Letters Club, 2007.
She was an integral part of Arctic Quest – a group of 25 artists with a passion for the Canadian North, and continues to paint and exhibit Arctic scenes and wildlife.

Val has received many awards of merit from her peers including Doris McCarthy and is a member of the following organizations: Art Council of Northumberland County; Cedar Ridge Creative Centre; East Central Ontario Art Association; Pine Ridge Arts Council; Toronto Watercolour Society; Visual Arts Ontario; Member Emeritus of the Scarborough Arts Council and Past President of the Art Guild of Scarborough.
Her work is held in various private collections across Canada, the United States, South Africa, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.
